Content Delivery Network (CDN)

Make your site faster by putting your content closer to your users.

A Content Delivery Network, or CDN, is a specialized network of servers configured for faster, more efficient delivery of your images, video files, and other static files (such as javascript and CSS). Copies of your files are cached at “edge servers” located at “points of presence” (PoPs) around the world. Using a CDN can significantly improve the user experience of your site or application. Fast sites sell more stuff!

Reduce Load On Your Server

When your site runs without a CDN, all static files (images, javascript, CSS, video, etc.) are served directly from your servers to every user. When you are using a CDN, the HTML is served directly to your user, but the additional static files are delivered by the closest active edge server to each user. The work related to delivering those static files is thus distributed across the CDN, and not using the resources or bandwidth of your servers. Your server only needs to refresh the CDN periodically, when the Time-to-Live (TTL) of the cache expires. The TTL is adjustable and you can manually pre-fetch or purge files from the cache.

Faster Page Load Times

Even if a visitor is located many thousands of miles from your server, the user should experience your site as fast and responsive… because most of the weight of the site is coming to them from a nearby high-performance edge server, no matter where they are.
